This blog will allow you to follow the creation of a screenplay from the creation of an idea to the end result. Regular posts will let you see what happens at each phase.

18 - Development Refining - Major        Fri, 08/21/09 - Scott

Less than half way through cutting, I had cut several pages and done some reorganization. The really great part of going over and over the material (in a constructive way, not just rereading it), is that you see things that you don't like and look for a way to improve the story. The parts that bother you, you will go back to again and again until you have the resolved. One thing I didn't like was the climactic scene: The turning points weren't clear in it; the mechanism I used to create the turning points, I thought was problematic; and I didn't feel that the other subplots worked together well enough to influence the plot. So I came up with a much better plan.

This is what Development is all about. You analyze the story for writing elements, how well it potentially pleases an audience (and distributors), and problems, and then you rearchitect the story to improve it.
